Launched in 2006, Enterprise Solutions to Poverty mobilizes and supports about 150 leading companies, banks and entrepreneurs in building profitable and inclusive businesses that incorporate millions of low-income people as suppliers, distributors and consumers of asset-building products. ESP focuses on agribusiness and agri- and inclusive finance. Over the last nine years, ESP has mobilized industry leaders in India, China, Mexico, Colombia and Kenya supporting them in building inclusive businesses particularly in agriculture and financial services.. Among its activities, ESP manages the Platform to Create Shared Value in Agribusiness in India. Through the Platform ESP works with agribusiness and bank leaders to create shared value with 20 million farmers by 2020. ESP has developed a strong focus in agri-finance, working with agribusinesses and banks to build financing for small farmers; ESP has distilled its experience and that of leading financial institutions into performance measurement and evaluation tools for IFC, the World Bank and KfW. Nancy Barry, President of ESP, led the World Bank’s work on industry, trade and finance and was President of Women’s World Banking from 1990 to 2006, before creating Enterprise Solutions to Poverty. She is on the Board of FMBBVA. Each year, ESP does action research on cutting edge areas for inclusive and agri-finance, for use by FMBBVA and other leaders in micro, inclusive and agri- finance.
