Overview
EWB was founded in 2004 as a university group of the Karlsruhe University of Technology (KIT). Today it counts as an established non-profit association with more than 300 members, mainly including students of all faculties from the KIT. The name "Engineers Without Borders" (EWB) is used worldwide by humanitarian organizations that share the common goal of working with partners in developing countries to significantly improve their living conditions through sustainable engineering projects. They learn to take on responsibilities by visiting and implementing projects in developing countries and cooperating with different partners abroad. In addition to their regular studies at the university, students are hereby able to broaden their horizon with means no level of teaching could be able to provide. As a university group of KIT and a registered association, we can operate independently. All our work is done voluntarily, and our projects are financed entirely by donations. Only a minimal share is used for administration, which means donations can flow directly into the projects. After careful consideration with the local partners and population, the available financial and engineering means are then sustainably implemented in the chosen project.
