Overview

Embedded Designs and Systems, LLC specializes in the field of embedded sensors, embedded electronics, Signal processing for acoustic and RF systems, algorithm design and geo-location, and motion control systems. Much of our work is for government customers, although the application to the commercial and industrial markets is of great interest. In the areas of circuit design, EDS has designed a wide variety of printed circuit boards that essentially capture the signals of interest, digitize them, and pass the on to a computational engine. The signals of interest have been acoustic, RF (radio frequency), motion sensing signals, and industrial feedback signals. The main goal of the analog electronics is usually to quickly and accurately realize a digital signal. EDS has also designed processing engines for the digitized analog signals. While we sometimes will take the signals into a PC or mainframe, our specialty is the embedded market, so usually we pass the signal to either an on board Digital Signal Processor, or to an FPGA. In some cases, it is both. We also specialize in designing the software and algorithms necessary to make sense and use the original signals. We have designed detection circuitry and beamformers for acoustic and RF signatures, using both VHDL for the FPGA processing engines and C/C++ for the DSP engines. If it makes sense, we will split the processing between the FPGA nd DSP, although some of the newer devices now include both the FPGA fabric and processors in the same package. The signal processing algorithms we develop are mainly designed in Matlab and Labview, and then coded into C or VHDL. We have developed algorithms for beamformers, adaptive cancellation systems, RF and acoustic geo-location, and gunshot detection. We are also available to subcontract. Contact us for details.
