Overview
The City of Durham Youth Commission (DYC) is a city-funded commission of 30 civic-minded high school students who strive to be a voice for Durham's youth. The DYC is one of 25 youth councils chartered with the NC State Youth Council, an office of the NC Department of Administration. DYC members who are selected through an application process and serve a 1-year term. Members are taught civic engagement and parliamentary procedure, attend conferences around the state to collaborate and learn from other youth councils, and participate in various service learning initiatives. The DYC gives an annual report of its activities, projects, and achievements to the Durham City Council at one city council meeting a year.
