Overview

Welcome to the Department of Finance – a place that is about much more than numbers. We are central to the Australian Public Service and make a real impact through our work, which reaches into every other agency and department in the APS. Finance plays a key role assisting the Australian Government to shape and deliver its priorities to ensure public expenditure programs are sustainable and reflect best-practice financial management. We provide services, make decisions and offer advice in a range of areas: • the Budget and the government’s financial framework • public sector transformation • the government’s non-defence domestic property portfolio and the sale of key assets • government business enterprises • the Service Delivery Office • insurance services for other government agencies • ministerial and parliamentary services • whole-of-government procurement. Our people are our most important asset and we make sure we invest in them. We do this by: • enabling our staff to develop their strengths, learn new skills and realise career goals by providing learning and development opportunities and great mentoring programs • creating a diverse and inclusive workforce which attracts, retains and supports employees from all diversity groups. A variety of staff networks support this culture • providing a workplace that encourages innovation and collaboration with flexible workspaces and dedicated zones for collaborative working • supporting staff to look after their health and wellbeing with access to state-of-the art facilities and programs. When you work at with us you can expect to enjoy the support of a friendly and collaborative team who will help you achieve the best possible outcome, and go above and beyond to deliver the best results on each and every project. You can expect to build long-lasting relationships with access to an extensive network of influencers and decision-makers, and open up a world of opportunities within the Commonwealth.
