Democracy Development Program

Overview

The Democracy Development Program (DDP) aims to deepen the practice of democracy in South Africa. Our vision is to advocate for an active citizenry that can hold those in power to account and a society in which our constitutionally enshrined Bill of Rights yields tangible benefits for all. Our mission is to deepen democracy through the promotion of good governance and active citizenship in society. Since our founding in 1993, the DDP contributes to the democratic development of South Africa by facilitating the lived values of democracy in individuals, organizations communities and political parties. These values then give rise to new norms and practices in DDP’s partners who support equality, power sharing, active citizenship and social justice. The DDP works with political parties, civil society, ordinary citizens and communities across the KwaZulu Natal and South Africa.
