Overview

The Caucus on Refugee and Immigrant Health is associated with the American Public Health Association (APHA) and was established to increase focus on the health and social needs of refugee and immigrant populations coming into the United States. Special attention is paid to the needs of those populations resettled from war-disrupted, politically disenfranchised or religiously compromised nations, as well as individuals from environmental disaster areas (e.g., drought). Community health services can be overwhelmed with an influx of refugees, in need of translators and unfamiliar with traditional health care practices that may be misunderstood by Western practitioners. The Caucus develops programs exploring issues and identifies innovative solutions in various communities. The Caucus also works with APHA to develop policy regarding the needs of refugee and immigrant peoples. https://aphacrih.wordpress.com/
