Overview
Copperbelt Forestry Company is a wholly Zambian owned company incorporated on 29th September 2000 as Private Limited Company. It has its production units at Kalibu Sawmills along Kitwe-Ndola dual carriage way and Kafubu treatment plant and Sawmills along Kalengwa Road about 25KM from Kalulushi town. It also has a number of sales outlets, two in Lusaka, one in Solwezi, two in Kitwe and one in Kalulushi-Kafubu. BACKGROUND The company was established through government privatisation process of Zambia Forestry and Forest Industries Corporation Ltd (ZAFFICO) processing units. The remaining assets after privatization comprising about 50, 000 hectares of commercial forest plantations are under government control through ZAFFICO. These forest plantations containing an estimated 6,000,000 cubic meters of merchantable timber are the main source of round wood requirement for Copperbelt Forestry Company. Copperbelt Forestry Company Ltd (CFC) also owns a total of 864 hectares of forest plantations as a back up resource for its round wood requirements. It is the company intention to increase its forest plantation hectarage to about 3000 and become self sufficient by the year 2015. Before privatization, ZAFFICO was the major producer and supplier of timber to the mines and construction industry in Zambia, the role which was assumed by CFC upon privatization. The company has adequate timber production infrastructure and expertise to meet most of the timber requirements for the construction and mining industry in the country. THE MISSION STATEMENT: To conservatively harvest and maximize the utilisation of timber on replacement and sustained yield basis with a view to optimising its potential value and promoting environmental conservation through prudent and inclusive management, innovations, and above all competitiveness for the benefit of the present and future generations.
