Overview

From the conflict regions of the world, Conflictfood brings the best traditional agricultural products to your table, while strengthening local structures and offering a peaceful future. In 2015 we, Gernot and Salem, traveled to Afghanistan for the first time. In Herat, in the west of the country, we met a women's collective that courageously turned away from growing poppy. and are now growing saffron. Their story made a lasting impression on us and even before we returned we had the idea for Conflictfood. Our mission: Strengthening local structures and creating ways out of poverty through fair and direct trade with farmers in conflict-stricken regions. Back in Berlin we started our social business and began trading with delicacies. Today we travel to trouble spots around the world. For saffron to Afghanistan, to freekeh farmers in Palestine, for specialty-coffee and organic teas to the ethnic minorities of the Akha and Ta'ang in Myanmar. With Conflictfood we follow a holistic, socially sustainable approach along the entire value chain. From close partnership, to cultural exchange to responsible consumption. Conflictfood sets a high value on the traceability of products, even to the smallest production step. We aim to create awareness for countries and cultures. We show these countries in a different light – beyond their crisis image. This ensures a better understanding of global correlations and breaks down walls - especially those in our heads.
