Trenton is New Jersey’s capital city of approximately 85,000 residents that is governed under the Faulkner Act (Mayor-Council) system of municipal government, by a Mayor and seven-member City Council. Its government is comprised of 10 departments, divisions and bureaus and approximately 1,200 employees, and has an annual budget of $263 million. Trenton is located in Central New Jersey, about an hour from New York City and Philadelphia. It has a robust public transportation system that features bus, train and light rail systems, including Amtrak and its Acela and limited SEPTA bus service to Oxford Valley Mall in Pennsylvania. On July 1, 2014, Eric E. Jackson was elected the city’s 55th mayor since the city was incorporated in 1792. Trenton’s key departments include the Trenton Police Department, the Department of Administration, the Law Department, Finance, Health & Human Services, the Fire Department, Housing & Economic Development, Inspections, Public Works, the Municipal Court system and the City Clerk.
