Overview

The Charlottesville Free Clinic provides free primary medical care, prescriptions and dental care for low-income, working uninsured or underinsured adults and their families in the Charlottesville/Albemarle area. All services are provided by volunteers or the CFC's on-staff nurse practitioner or dentist. More than 500 community members, including over 150 physicians, nurse practitioners, pharmacists and dentists, volunteer at the CFC annually. The CFC is supported in full by donations from individuals, foundations, businesses, civic groups, patients and churches, fundraising events, grants from local/regional foundations as well as grants from the City of Charlottesville, Albemarle County and the Commonwealth of Virginia. The CFC does not receive federal funding. During fiscal year 2014, 500 health care professionals, students and community members donated more than 14,000 hours of service to the CFC and our patients. Our volunteer providers treated more than 3,300 patients with more than 9,000 visits to our clinic, and our pharmacy dispensed over 33,500 prescriptions to our patients at no cost. Mission To provide a volunteer community health support system that offers high-quality health care to the working uninsured and underinsured population, which would otherwise have no access to care. To provide practical experience for current and future health care professionals. To hasten, through education and advocacy, the creation of a comprehensive policy for access to health care.
