Overview

Jaljeevika is addressing the issue of small-scale fish farmers, building community resilience and capacity to enhance livelihood opportunities using existing water bodies, technology and leveraging institutions. We work through an ecosystem development model to build skill, develop institutional capacity and empower smallholders to interact with the market using the technology platform. We are facilitating the process in collaboration with various stakeholders to establish a knowledge forum to establish Blue Economy. We aim to increase the potential productivity of water bodies, reduce distress rural migration and create layers of livelihood opportunities across the value chain. Aquaculture provides an inexpensive source of nutrition, alleviate poverty and ensure livelihood opportunities for millions of people. It’s an effort to bring all the stakeholders, CBO’s, local organizations, technical experts, policy analysis and advocacy group, natural resource management and livelihood supporting agency together to bring best values of institution development towards the promotion of small scale fishery and aquatic livelihood. We add greater value to our partners’ efforts through our capacity to synthesize and integrate knowledge at local, national and regional levels. #Jaljeevika is a process to establish #aquaforsocialgoods and our uniqueness lies in: •We are one of the sectoral organisation to improve socio-economic status of fishing community and farmers whose livelihood depends on productivity of water bodies •We enable farmers to learn affordable and sustainable aquatic farming practices. We facilitate convergence of technologies, innovation and traditional knowledge system towards ensuring better livelihood opportunities •We are a nodal centre to promote aquatic related social enterprises at community level through institutional governance and market linkages •We demonstrate integrated livelihood models to ensure doubling farmer
