Overview

CAREED, situated within the University of the West of Scotland, stands as a prominent research center committed to enhancing knowledge. We bring together a diverse group of researchers, experts, & practitioners to generate valuable insights and evidence-based solutions that foster sustainable growth and prosperity across the continent. CAREED is a unique centre of excellence within Scotland which focuses on five critical areas of interest reflecting the areas of research interests of academics namely: commodities and exporting; logistics and supply chain management; enterprise and entrepreneurship (including gender enterprise); governance and ethics; and microfinance and social business. Our Mission: At CAREED, we aim to conduct rigorous research and provide actionable recommendations that drive positive change in African economies. We aim to support policymakers, businesses, and civil society organizations in making informed decisions to enhance entrepreneurship, economic development, and inclusive growth in Africa. Areas of Expertise: Economic Policy and Governance: We analyze the impact of policies, regulations, and institutional frameworks on economic growth, investment, and entrepreneurship in African countries. Our research informs evidence-based policy recommendations to create an enabling environment for sustainable development. Entrepreneurship and Innovation: We investigate the dynamics of entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystems in Africa, exploring the factors that drive entrepreneurship, foster innovation, and facilitate the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises. Our work contributes to the development of vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystems across Africa. Sustainable Development and Inclusive Growth: CAREED is committed to promoting sustainable development. We examine the linkages between economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability to identify strategies and interventions that ensure equitable development in Africa.
