Overview

Çevre Dostu Yeşil Binalar Derneği (ÇEDBİK) / Turkish Green Building Council (TGBC) The Turkish Green Building Council (ÇEDBİK) aims to contribute to the building industry’s development by means of the spread of principles of sustainability. ÇEDBİK which was established in 2007, has now more than 130 supporting members. ÇEDBİK is currently working on adapting an environmental certificate system for buildings specific to the geographical, climatic, political, social and technological context of Turkey. Turkish Green Building Council has been granted Full Council Status by the World Green Building Council (WGBC) on June 2012 and continues to develop its substructure through an increasing participation both with other Green Building Councils (GBC’s) in the world and with the local construction sector. Turkish Green Building Council believes that today we can have a healthier living environment through buildings and settlements built only if we apply integrated approach and ecological sensitivity. The association organizes trainings, attends conferences and seminars, manages projects, signs protocols and co-organizes events with public and local authorities, academia, other private sector and/or non-governmental organizations to raise public awareness and encourage industry for environmental friendly, energy efficient buildings and communities. Systems that assess buildings and settlements according to environmental impacts are an effective tool in the targeted green renewal process. Following the national and international developments in this area, the one and only national residential green building certificate B.E.S.T, has been generated by the Turkish Green Building Council, in accordance with national conditions. Technical study committees of the association work on development of B.E.S.T, as well as generation of other green building certification systems for existing buildings and settlements.
