Overview

Our organisation, originally known as the Contact Lens Society of Australia (CLSA), was founded in 1962 with a charter of improving the standard of prescribing, fitting and management of contact lenses in Australia. The CLSA encouraged a sense of solidarity in the eye care industry by educating our members, hosting conventions and lectures and providing facilities for scientific research. From humble beginnings, with only 28 members attending the CLSA’s first AGM in 1963, membership of our organisation continues to grow. In December 2008 we became the Cornea & Contact Lens Society of Australia (CCLSA), reflecting the wider scope and broader interests of our members. The ‘new’ CCLSA, officially launched at a Victoria branch meeting in February 2009 where a revised constitution and new collateral were launched to reflect the vibrant and dynamic activity of the society. CCLSA has become more inclusive, with members including optometry, ophthalmology, academia, industry, students, researchers and registrars. We continue our leadership in the vision correction professions, academia and industry and strive to make membership of our society more attractive than ever. Our Covid response was immediate – and the resultant webinars have been a great success – but face to face education, mentoring and collegiality remains a cornerstone of what we do. Our resources are constantly upgraded and a new Association Management System and Website Portal will be implemented in early 2022. We have provided over $650,000 in research grants since 1973 and continue to provide a number of annual research awards. Follow us also on: https://www.facebook.com/CCLSAus
