Capt. Sally Black, Professional Fishing Guide

Spectator Sports

Overview

Sally Ann Black has been a lifelong lover of the outdoors and grew up along the shores of Lake Erie. Her father was a boating and fishing enthusiast and often joked that Sally was the son he'd never had. Moving to Rockport from Houston in 1984, and working for a local attorney as a paralegal, she outfitted her first boat. In 1998 she obtained her 25 Ton Near Coastal Masters Coast Guard Captain's license and decided to go out on her own as a professional fishing guide. She has gained wide recognition as one of only a handful of female fishing guides in the country, the first (and only) female fly fishing guide on the Texas Coast and the first professional fishing guide to specialize in Kayak Fishing in Texas. Dove and duck hunting has recently been added to her outdoor passions, along with her 2 year old black lab, Kelly. Finding a new niche market of “beginner” hunters was unexpected, but has brought much enjoyment and satisfaction in passing these pursuits on to her clients. Sally has published the first of several new books about kayak fishing and shallow water sightcasting, entitled, "Kayak Fishing the Texas Way, a Beginner's Handbook and has also authored the Texas mid coast chapter of the nationally published book, “Saltwater Fly Fishing from Maine to Texas”, edited by Don Phillips. Sally also writes for several monthly and on-line publications including Saltwater Angler and Texas Outback Magazine. Capt. Sally has recently become a "Certified Wildlife Guide".
