BGI is a deep innovation global accelerator based in Lisbon (Portugal) and Cambridge (MA/USA). It stems from the unique collaboration between the University Institute of Lisbon – ISCTE and MIT entities, MIT Portugal, Deshpande Center for Technological Innovation and the Martin Trust Center for Entrepreneurship. The accelerator is directed at aspiring entrepreneurs and Innovators (startups / spin-outs under 5 years old), working on 4 market-application verticals: 1. Medical Devices & Health IT 2. Smart cities & Industry 4.0 Solutions 3. Enterprise IT & Smart Data 4. Water Economy Every year: - 10 to 15 ventures are selected to BGI and benefit from expert mentoring amounting to over 1.150h, which includes bootcamps in Lisbon (Portugal) and Cambridge (USA). This free of charge in-kind support is valued at 1 million €. - About 11 out of the 20 accelerated ventures attract some form of venture financing (40% non-dilutive and 60% risk capital sources).
