Overview

The vast majority of softball played in the UK is the co-ed (mixed) slowpitch format, however there is also numerous single-sex slowpitch teams and a growing fastpitch community. Softball has a wide-ranging Great Britain Softball National Teams programme in both fastpitch and slowpitch. This includes men's and women's senior and junior fastpitch teams, and co-ed and men’s slowpitch teams. The GB Senior Women's Fastpitch Team is ranked 12th in the world, and in 2019 were the runners up in Africa/European Olympic qualifying berth for Tokyo 2020. The GB Senior Men's Fastpitch Team is currently ranked fifth in Europe and 13th in the world. The Men's slowpitch team have recently retained the Europan gold medalist status and ranked first in Europe. The Co-ed slowpitch team are the current gold medalists and first raked side in Europe, having previously won the European Co-ed Slowpitch Championship on 11 of 12 occasions. There are many regional slowpitch leagues around the country whose teams affiliate annually to the BSF through their leagues, as do fastpitch teams through the Great Britain Fastpitch League. Tournament-only teams must also affiliate in order to take part in BSF National Championship tournaments. Aside from National Championships, there are a multitude of local tournaments during the summer in different parts of the country.
