Overview

Artistic Mission: The mission of Boston Theater Company is to create new work while pushing the boundaries of theatre by exploring new ways to tell stories. We are rooted in the power theater has to unite, uncover and illuminate. We tell innovative stories that showcase the complexity of the human condition, using modes from verbatim documentary theater to movement-based non-verbal projects to music. Operating outside of a traditional season model, we craft each year with our project-based programming. We champion collaborative expression, a commitment to artistic integrity, and are grounded in a social responsibility. We celebrate the opportunity theater has to highlight our common humanity and encourage important conversation. Core Values: • Social Awareness • Artistic Excellence • Promote Health and Wellness • Collaboration • Constantly Evolving • Develop Future Artists • Community Connection EDUCATION MISSION: Boston Theater Company's education program is grounded in approaching Shakespeare in new and innovative ways. Our program builds upon old notions of Shakespeare by exploring the unique perspective of the contemporary student. Our goal is for students to discover personal connections to Shakespeare that will spark a lasting interest in theater and classic works. Our Education program revolves around the belief that theater and creative drama can unlock a child’s creativity, confidence, and penchant for collaboration. We design our programs to engage young people creatively, physically, and analytically, to challenge them to think in new ways, and to promote reflection about themselves, each other, and the world around them. By approaching classic stories and characters from the inside out, we create curricula that are appropriate for each age group, allowing them to develop understanding and to harness their potential for teamwork, play, and empathy.
