Overview

BLM Seacoast was formed in July 2020 by 3 Seacoast community members. Following the killing of George Floyd, we were motivated to make a change in our communities. Our purpose is to dismantle anti-Blackness, fight against racial injustices and police brutality. This includes Strafford & Rockingham Counties of New Hampshire, Essex County of Massachusetts, and York County of Maine. BLM Seacoast is a 501c3 Nonprofit organization. BLM Seacoast is 100% Black-led Organization. We consist of committees with volunteers of all ethnicities, genders, and cultures. Our organization strives to be an anti-oppressive organization, which is truly representative of our community and where our community must strive to be. Goals of BLM Seacoast: Provide affinity spaces for Black and BIPOC Youth Nurture youth leadership and foster the voice of the next generation Support the Black and BIPOC community through mutual aid projects (food drives, scholarships, etc.) Promote Black-owned businesses Demand an investment into education, social services, enhancing the health of black people and away from exploitative forces such as law enforcement, jail and prisons, that have harmed and criminalized the black community. Initiatives: Mutual Aid Fund: Fund that provides funding to families and youth in need. Can be used for housing, counseling, extracurricular activities. College Scholarship Fund: Fund that provides a $1000 scholarship to graduating seniors who are attending a 2-4 year institution Youth and College Division: This is our division open to ages 12+. The focus of this group is to provide educational and training opportunities, mutual aid projects, and activism opportunities for youth. Monthly BLM Chats/programs/panels.
