Belvas Belgium Fairtrade Chocolates

Food and Beverage Manufacturing

Overview

Belvas chocolaterie is an artisan chocolate factory located in the South of Belgium since 1987 and with a strong belief in organic agriculture and fairtrade. It has acquired a quality reputation in its region thanks to her own shops, to multiple bakeries carrying her pralines and truffles, and her continuous innovation in natural (fresh cream) formulations. In 2005, the company decided to turn completely to Fairtrade ingredients. We believe this model of sharing prosperity with the original cocoa farmers is justice towards the worldwide reputation that Belgium has as chocolate makers. New recipes and new ingredients were selected to develop a complete new product range. We set as base principle in this development that the product quality should be “remarkably better” than the regular chocolate experience of the consumer. This because “the good taste” will ultimately be the real driver of the progression of Fairtrade products. The new range still respects the original roots of the company, namely All Natural, High quality Ingredients and Arisanal skills. In 2009 Belvas has decided to build a totally new production, questioning all production habits towards the best ecological alternative. In March 2009, Belvas has been certified as the “First ecological chocolate factory in Northern Europe” by the European norm EMAS. In november 2011, Belvas has received the award of the "Most ecological micro-company of Europe" (EMAS prize, awarded by the EU commission)
