Overview

BAME Vision aims to address and highlight issues related to BAME communities both for blind and partially sighted people and those at risk of sight loss, whilst ensuring that they can take advantage of the opportunities they are given in the same way anyone else would. The U.K. is dynamic and energetic, providing a broad range of opportunities and benefits, which should be available to all. BAME Vision is a group of member organisations in the eye health and sight loss sector represented by both professional experts and also by those with lived experience enabling us to work cohesively. Our Vision Our vision is for people from BAME communities to have access to information and resources in a variety of accessible formats. This means an environment where blind or partially sighted people are accepted in everyday life with increasing opportunities to make fulfilling life choices. Our Mission Our mission is to address the inequalities experienced by blind and partially sighted people and those at risk of sight loss from BAME communities, by changing attitudes and misunderstandings around vision impairment together. We will improve reach and engagement, allowing individuals and families to be in control of their own eye health and sight loss journey. Through working together with the eye health and sight loss sectors, our team with lived experience and professional expertise will challenge unfair treatment, come up with and influence strategies, break down barriers and widely increase the possibilities for people from BAME communities to have their say in all aspects of life, including decision making.
