Overview

The Society of Jesus is also generally referred to as ‘the Jesuits’. Founded by Saint Ignatius Loyola more than 450 years ago, the Society is an international Catholic religious male order of priests, brothers and others in formation for these roles. The Australian Province of the Society of Jesus had its beginnings with the arrival of the first Jesuits in Australia in 1848.
