Overview

I'm a creative genetically, which I honour at heart and is represented in my character. I represent the subjects that resonate with me at soul level with enthusiasm, knowledge and clout. I am intrinsically passionate about the constant in my art, horses - which are a metaphor for self. All things equine are expressed in my mixed media pieces principally because they are a therapeutic reflection of my experience with them and self. Many other consistent subjects include: landscapes (plus the collection of leaves that catch my attention on my travels), birds (including their feathers, which are frequently integrated into my compositions) and my personal found objects. My filter is peppered with the colour, energy and beauty I associate with my favourite subjects. My creative methods and materials have been honed to capture my subjects as to how I experience them. My useful box is extensive with mediums such as acrylic, gouache, ink, pastel, conte, pencil and charcoal. I prefer my references to be captured by my own camera and then I take it to the next level in the studio. I spent much of my teen years painting with photographic realism, but in my senior secondary school, then further at University I developed an expressive technique, which is more in keeping with my personality. As I get older my art has become somewhat more esoteric and abstract. I work informed by an extensive arts education with high achievement gongs in my senior high school year, when I was invited to represent the Ballarat region in the ‘Top Arts’ Show for high achieving Victorian art students. At tertiary level I possess the University of Ballarat’s Bachelor of Visual Arts – Painting. At the University of Melbourne I gained a Bachelor of Arts – majoring in Art History. I subsequently went on to acquire a Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary).
