Overview
Formerly known as the Axios Foundation, Akesis was born in 2000 from the pioneering efforts of its founders in implementing one of the first antiretroviral (ARV) treatment programs in Africa. In 2020, the Axios Foundation was renamed Akesis. Over the last 20 years, Akesis has worked with public and private sector stakeholders to strengthen health systems and access to healthcare in more than 35 countries around the world – expanding from HIV/AIDS to other critical public health areas including malaria, family planning, cancer and vaccines. Today, we continue to break new ground as we work to advance a new generation of responsive health system strengthening services in parts of the world where it is needed most. As Akesis, we take a unique approach that prioritizes both systems and people to enable quality, reliable service delivery for more sustainable outcomes. Akesis offers a full suite of responsive health system strengthening services that put local institutions in the driver’s seat and build upon existing infrastructure, systems and human resources.
