Overview

Man has always tried to build and maintain coherent structures, beliefs, and to pass on this knowledge from generation to generation. But today there is a real danger that we are throwing everything away, destroying the very planet that supports us. If we don’t modify our approach it will soon be too late. We have seen many ideological developments in our history so far, but have yet to find a universal approach that shows us the way forward. 1.618 La Foundation’s principal mission is to continue this search and foster a multi-disciplinary, universally humanist, approach to finding a workable equilibrium between man and the planet, the universe. Scientists, artists, philosophers, diplomats et al must work together for the common good now and for the future. The ocean is the origin and the future. 1.618 La Fondation has chosen it as for the focus of this work; the ocean that clearly shows how man is disconnected from his own environment. To this end 1.618 La Fondation has decided to develop ocean exploration by pioneering new technologies in increasingly hybrid vessels and ultimately by building the first of a new generation of zero impact, high-tech research ships. On board selected cross-discipline projects will strive to find solutions, to progress, to inform, to engender positive change. The cycles at sea will feed multi-media publications, exhibitions, technological advances. Working together, thinking out of the box we can advance. We must understand our world, our responsibility, our contribution and our future. Despite enormous evolution we have yet to find a non-intrusive, forward-looking balance. It is the declared aim of 1.618 La Fondation, its teams, projects, vessels and missions to actively seek this.
