Starting up Studio Agency at a young age of 19yrs old propelled me into getting my 'shit together' at a much younger age than most. I self taught myself to be organised and responsible beyond my years which is very contrasted to my high school years where I was somewhat the opposite and failed miserably at being an exemplary student. I would learn song lyrics in math class, pay other students to do my assignments and I would do my home work every morning on the bus on the way to school. I was what some parents would call, a bad role model. On the positive, my entrepreneurial side started to shine through at school when at the age of 14 (year 9) I started a trend of wearing mini wooden pegs on my uniform collar as a fashion statement and then all the kids on the bus would think it was the coolest and asked where they could get them from. The next week I showed up with a few bags of them that I had bought from the two dollar shop that weekend and started selling them to students at 20cents each for the small ones and 50cents each for the medium ones, even though the whole bag only cost me $2! My little peg selling business continued for a month before i got called to the principals office to be told that I was to be commended on my clever business idea however pegs are not part of the school uniform and I need to cease selling them to other students. Since leaving I have been called back a few times to give talks to the year 10 students for Career Day. The lesson learned here is that school is great for some but you don't need to succeed at school to succeed in life. I started the agency back in 2007 and for the first four years I didn't make any money at all and I had no staff or really even a proper office space. But things started to turn around for me in 2011 when I started creating and selling our own in house brand, Girl and the Sun. These days I have a great office space in West End and an amazing team of 12 staff with plans of expansion. ZSV xo
