Personal Shopper

Nov 2020 - Apr 2021
A part-time (average of 20 hours per week) team member in the DotCom department at a Tesco Superstore, my role involved working efficiently with a team of personal shoppers to ensure that online orders were assembled correctly. I quickly adapted in this role, succeeding in a fast-paced ever-evolving environment where communicating effectively with co-workers and working methodically was key to completing the orders to a high standard. I was responsible for picking items quickly whilst maintaining a specific pick rate, assisting customers on the shop floor, and helping other employees with their tasks. Time management was essential in this role as I had to balance many demands at one time, however I thrived in a busy atmosphere and performed my role best when I was under pressure.

Bar Staff

Jul 2020 - Apr 2021
A full-time (average of 37.5 hours per week) front of house team member of a busy pub in Colchester, post Covid-19 lockdown. My role included a combination of fulfilling a bar staff role to a high standard in conjunction with ensuring that the 5 Greene King "pub safe" promises were implemented, to maintain a high level of safety for customers. As an outgoing member of staff I was responsible for welcoming customers into the establishment and informing them of the current safety procedures in the building. This required excellent verbal communication and patience with customers, and was important to guarantee maximum safety for customers in the business.Due to the people oriented aspect of this role I was always approachable, ensured my appearance was professional and established a people first attitude to my role. I was also responsible for fulfilling my role on the bar, which included working with my team members to serve beverages to customers at a fast pace whilst also producing high quality products. Time management was essential in this role as I had to balance many demands at one time, however I thrive in a busy atmosphere and often performed my role at its best when I was under pressure on a busy shift. To fully execute my duties on the bar I always developed a good rapport with customers to enable high satisfaction with their service, which also enabled me to upsell products. I was also responsible for checking stock levels, handling transactions, maintaining a clean work area, supporting younger members of staff in their role and closing down the bar at the end of the day. As a front of house team member, I often took on extra responsibility where it was needed to contribute to the running of the business and cohesion of the team.

Bar Staff
-
Nov 2019 - Mar 2020
A part-time (average of 15 hours a week) bar staff member working with a small team of co-workers in a busy city centre bar, whilst studying Psychology at The University of Birmingham. Although I was originally hired as bar staff, my previous experience within the hospitality environment and ability to adapt to fulfill the needs of the business resulted in me contributing to several different roles. I was therefore responsible not only as bar staff but also as a barista, waitress and kitchen assistant. In these various roles I was responsible for sustaining a high level of communication with colleagues to work together to provide expert customer service at a fast pace. On every shift it was paramount that I was efficient in my role and organised with the tasks I had to complete, as any mistakes would reflect not only on me but on the team. I was a reliable team member who not only completed my tasks to a high standard, but enjoyed supporting other team members in their roles to establish cohesion and therefore increase effectiveness of the team.

Mentor
-
Sep 2019 - Jan 2020
Mentoring secondary school students as part of state funded outreach programme to encourage higher aspirations in students from deprived areas of Birmingham. My role as a mentor was to educate students on life and study skills, equipping and encouraging them to develop their independence but also their confidence to pursue further education. After extensive training I delivered a weekly programme for a group of 8 students during which I focused on teaching basic skills in the context of a school trip, of which many of the students had no experience, such as: using public transport, buying tickets, travelling to Birmingham city centre, emailing and calling businesses, booking experiences online, budgeting for a day trip, planning tours of Universities, researching online, timetabling the day trip and planning a meal for students whilst considering dietary requirements. I was responsible for not only delivering this programme but also encouraging the students to communicate with each other and work together to produce a presentation. As a mentor to these young people, my role included the practical side of delivering a programme to promote independence and aspirations into further education. However, a majority of the role was to develop a professional relationship with each student to create a supportive and honest environment for them to thrive and develop in. Each session I was committed to building a good rapport with each student, thus promoting conversation and collaboration within the group. I also felt a responsibility as a mentor to be as open as was appropriate in a professional environment, enabling students to ask me questions about my own experience with education, life and study skills and further education. This honest and professional approach enabled me to have many discussions with the students about further education and aspirations, supporting them with both practical and relational advice on how to achieve their goals and "Aim Higher".

Bar and Restaurant Supervisor
-
May 2018 - Jan 2020
An established full-time (average of 55 hours a week during peak season) seasonal staff member with a supervisory role on both the bar and restaurant. My natural leadership and people-oriented skills were quickly recognised within the role and thus I was entrusted with high levels of responsibility within weeks of working at the business. Originally hired as bar staff, within a couple of weeks I was responsible for coordinating both the bar and restaurant when the General Manager was not present. My responsibilities included: - Taking stock inventory and ordering supplies to ensure the bar and restaurant were well stocked. - Cellar management and line cleaning. - Securing the bar and premises at the end of each day. - Cashing up daily takings and balancing the till. - Organising staff rotas and breaks to balance the needs of the team members with the needs of the business. - Building a repertoire with staff to support them in their roles and enable good communication within all levels of the business. - Staff training on bar and restaurant roles, encouraging their self development and building confidence in their roles to produce a more cohesive team. - Attending meetings with committee members, communicating innovative ideas on how to upsell products and produce more business for the club. - Organising events for members of the yacht club and catering for the needs of each individual event in regards to stock, staff and appearance of the event (such as wakes, parties, formal dinners, holiday celebrations) - Ensuring my own self development whilst working on the bar and restaurant. In this role I learnt a great deal on how to manage a small team of staff, ensuring excellent communication and problem solving to succeed as a team each day.

Language Mentor
-
Jun 2019 - Sep 2019
As a mentor on AngloVille residential programmes, I travelled in Poland and the UK mentoring young people from different countries around Europe. I was responsible for coaching children between the ages of 11 18 in the English language. This mentoring manifested itself in the form of educational sessions on English grammar as well as "speaking sessions" in which I was grouped with 3 young people to converse with in English. In these sessions we discussed many topics such as culture, history and hobbies. The young people in these sessions ranged in English speaking ability, due to age and individual ability, therefore I used my creativity to tailor each session depending on the children I was mentoring. As an approachable individual, I was able to use this when mentoring to easily build professional relationships with the children, as well as support them in their development of their confidence in the English language and overall development on the programme. This approachability also extended to my relationships with other volunteers. I was valued as a reliable and experienced volunteer whom others often came to for advice on their mentees or ways to engage the young people in their sessions. My role also included supporting the Programme Coordinator in motivating the team (volunteers from all over the world), organising activities and overseeing language sessions. The programme coordinator often turned to me for help solving any problems that arose, as an individual who is able to think quickly and creatively around a problem. Volunteering on this programme was extremely important for my self development as I was able to implement my natural abilities with children, as well as organisational and relational skills, in a more practical setting and see the results of these in the development of each child I mentored.

Auditor
-
Oct 2017 - Jul 2019
As an auditor working for Serve Legal, an independent service for retailers of age restricted products, I conducted market research and audits on an assignment basis. I was employed to audit companies such as Amazon, Sainsburys, JUUL, Tescos and Morrisons. In these audits I focused specifically on their employees implementation of the law, such as whether they asked for identification when buying restricted products. It was also important to have an eye for detail during these audits, as for each assignment I was expected to produce a well written detailed report outlining my experience within the store. These were details such as advertising for specific products, the customer service I experienced, the appearance and name of the employees who served me, the impression given within the store and the presence of challenge 21/25 posters. I was responsible for quickly analysing and evaluating my environment without giving my role as an auditor away to any employees. I was expected to complete each assignment within 12 hours, thus it was important to have excellent time management in this role as I was often given several assignments to complete within a short time frame. My professional verbal communication with my Area Manager was significant as it enabled the smooth execution of each assignment. I was then expected to provide immediate detailed feedback on my audit, working efficiently to communicate clearly and concisely my experience on the assignment. In this role it was important to be honest and accurate, as the reports I was writing could have both a positive or negative influence on the employee I had audited. This job placed a lot of responsibility on the importance of executing it to a high standard and producing high quality written reports. In this role I contributed to these companies' abilities to maintain high quality customer service and legal protocols.

Academic Tutor
-
Sep 2016 - Apr 2017
As a part-time tutor, I tutored groups of 6 children between the ages of 4-16: Maths, Phonics, Handwriting, and English. These children often had various behavioural or learning difficulties, which I quickly managed in this environment due my pro-activeness and previous volunteering in schools with children with ADHD and ASD. As a people oriented person I easily built relationships with colleagues and children, working well as a team to tutor children of various mental and physical abilities, helping each child reach their maximum potential in both their academic and personal development. I quickly became an important co-worker who other tutors relied on in a crisis, especially with specific children with behavioural difficulties as I had quickly built a good rapport with them. In this role I underwent extensive training on safeguarding and how to tutor children with various different difficulties. Regular appraisals were important not only for my self development as a tutor, but also to ensure I was maintaining a high level of care and education for the children.
