Within the Marine and Atmospheric Research division in CSIRO, I worked closely with research and technical Staff in multi-disciplinary teams—Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS) and Water Information Research and Development Alliance (WIRADA)—and external institutions, such as the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM), to improve the efficiency of use and uptake of remote sensing data for environmental research. My main focus in this role was to develop, optimise and deploy software systems and data management protocols in distributed environments to ingest, monitor and catalogue, document and deliver spatial data streams. In close collaboration with research staff, I developed protocols and tools to assist in the semi-operational management of large spatio-temporal data sets for use in a research environment. My commitments were not only related to design and development, but I was also in charge of presenting the outcomes of my research to the scientific community with reports and scientific papers. As a tutor, my responsibility is to conduct discussion-based tutorial sessions related to the course. The subject tutorials span several topics, including XML, Metadata, Electronic Document Management, Security, Information Retrieval, and E-Trading. In this role, I interact with student groups to provide valuable insight into student learning needs and problems, and act as a feedback link between students and the course coordinator.
