My research focused on macrophage polarization using human monocyte derived macrophages. I studied the effect of GM-CSF on macrophage morphology and function and how macrophages express and secrete Apolipoprotein E (ApoE). I studied a unique mycobacterial protein degradation system. My project focused on inhibiting a key enzymatic reaction, and by that develop a novel anti-tuberculosis therapeutics. To do so, I preformed a High Throughput Screening of small molecules and found several potent inhibitors.

During my PhD I studied protein glycosylation and how it affects the ligand-receptor interaction of the yolk protein precursor and its lipoprotein-receptor on the developing oocyte. To do so I used molecular, biochemical and proteomics methods. One of the key findings was that the ligand-receptor interaction site, is evolutionary conserved in all egg laying organisms and even mammals.
