With several years postdoctoral research experience in ultrasonics, modelling, sensors, electronics and electromagnetic and magnetic NDT, I work entirely on CIU industry funded projects.

My project focuses on magnetic monitoring of corrosion in pipelines by using the Magnetic Tomography Measurement (MTM) and the Metal Magnetic Memory (MMM) method. The work has taken me from developing a new instrumentation and methods of measuring magnetic fields, through to determining the sensitivity of the so-called MMM technique for stress determination in steel samples using magnetic sensor arrays, that I have designed and constructed. I have studied MTM by experimental and simulation methods, showing that the presence of ferromagnetic objects close to the magnetic sensors could cause perturbations larger than that from a defect. A Finite Element (FE) model validated the experimental results. Show less
