The Baum lab is well known for its malaria research ultimately with the hope of helping to create a malaria vaccine. I am working with a gene coding for a malaria sporozoite surface protein, whose function is still unknown, that might make a good target for a potential vaccine. Using immunofluorescence assays, I am looking at protein expression within sporozoites entering a mimicked "host bloodstream" to see if/how expression levels change. High protein expression would show that this gene might make a good vaccine target. Show less
