  Zarel Soto-Acabá is an appellate and trial litigator who focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation, government affairs, white-collar matters, government investigations and international corporate internal investigations. During his career, he has represented corporate clients in a wide range of disputes related to antitrust, securities, multi-district litigation, international business transactions involving the Puerto Rico Dealers Act and a myriad of contractual matters. He had also conducted substantial cross-border corporate internal investigations throughout Latin America in a wide array of topics, such as Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) matters, conflict of interests, anti-kickback allegations, market collusion, side-businesses, bribing schemes, and multiple corporate policy violations.Upon concluding his clerkship in the P.R. Court of Appeals, he worked as an Assistant Solicitor General in the Department of Justice of Puerto Rico where he represented the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico in disputes before the Puerto Rico Supreme Court, as well as before the Puerto Rico Court of Appeals and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. His experience in the public sector spanned the areas of bidding processes and government procurement, breach of contracts, construction law, extraordinary writs, administrative law, medical malpractice, among others. Thereafter, he became In-house corporate litigation counsel at the largest group of hospitals and healthcare providers of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. In said position, he represented several hospitals and clinical facilities in cases regarding healthcare, medical malpractice, torts, mental health, and breach of contracts. He was also engaged in contract drafting and negotiations.Mr. Soto later became part of the litigation department of a major law firm of San Juan where he gained substantial experience in federal and state court litigation in complex business matters.
