I took 3 consecutive Sports Medicine courses throughout high school that built upon the foundations of exercise science and kinesiology, anatomy and physiology, research, and medicine. The series of coursework offered me the opportunity to participate in an internship at the Rothman Orthopedic Institute through the partnership of the high school and organization. This was my first clinical experience where I was able to connect knowledge from the classroom and apply it in a setting where patients were present. A research component of the course required students to choose a sports medicine related health topic and conduct scholarly research reviews to present at a school wide poster board presentation. My selected topic was the Impact of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) in Professional Athletes and how data should influence policy change at the high school, collegiate and professional sport levels.
