As an experimental research scientist in the group, my work on developing active colloids for biomedical applications has been integral to the success of the project. My focus has been on exploring a range of exciting challenges related to active colloids, with the goal of developing microrobotic tools that can aid in understanding and controlling pattern formation for use in tissue engineering. Throughout the project, I have been responsible for designing, fabricating, and controlling micron-scale robots and motors. My work has centered on developing a swarm of innovative and intelligent microrobots that can work cooperatively to enable a wide range of biomedical research and healthcare applications. In addition to my key responsibilities related to the development of these microrobots, I have also played an important role in training new students in the manufacture and operation of micron-scale devices in the cleanroom. Furthermore, I have conducted experiments to study active colloid motion and their interaction with mammalian cells, helping to further our understanding of these exciting and promising tools. In addition to my work on developing active colloids, I have also made significant contributions to the development of a biopolymer-based hydrogel with controlled mechanical properties. Using my expertise in materials science and engineering, I developed a novel method for the fabrication of this hydrogel that has been instrumental in advancing our understanding of its potential applications. As a key member of the research team, I made significant contributions to this project on colloid design and bulk synthesis, which aimed to develop active systems and investigate a range of exciting phenomena emerging in bulk and under confinement. Utilizing advanced techniques such as structured light, electric/magnetic field, microfluidics, and intelligent feedback setup, we worked towards achieving precise control over the structure, dynamics, and transportation of matter at the micro/nanoscale. Throughout this research project, my focus was on uncovering the mechanisms of self-propulsion and the principles of mutual interactions in active colloids. I was also responsible for studying and controlling self-organization, collective dynamics, and odd flow properties of active matter. By working towards a deeper understanding of these fundamental principles, we aimed to develop active colloids that show biomimetic functions such as locomotion, transportation, communication, cooperation, and assembly, which have great potential in applications ranging from the lab on a chip to medicine, and sensing to the environment. One of my key achievements in this project was my work in developing and refining methods for colloid design and bulk synthesis. This involved using a range of techniques to carefully control the structure, dynamics, and behavior of the active colloids we were studying. Through these efforts, we were able to make significant progress in our understanding of the principles underlying active matter, opening up exciting new possibilities for their use in a wide range of applications.
