I believe data are the collective stories about people and their lives. Within these narratives, there are critical insights that may transform lives. Butterfli extract these human experiences from data and share it with the world. Butterfli is a social enterprise, where Social Work meets Data Science to influence Social Impact. I started working with Kennedy House as a Shelter Worker. I was promoted to Housing and Program Supervisor, and started reporting to SSHA as the site lead for TGRIP/Core Housing Funds. It has been a great learning experience to grow within Kennedy House. This agency allowed me to continue my professional growth by promoting me to the Assistant Shelter Manager position. At Kennedy House, I have the opportunity to shadow industry leaders. As I continue my journey with Kennedy House, I am paying it forward by mentoring and training future leaders. Show less

I wanted to explore the Adult Shelter Sector after my MSW graduation. Since I had experience working with Sojourn House, the HFS experience added another layer of understanding of the shelter sector (i.e. SSHA, SMIS, Safety Plans, Harm Reduction Services). At HFS, I learned about scaling-up existing service capacity to provide housing support to marginalized groups. I wanted to explore the Adult Shelter Sector after my MSW graduation. I have experience working with the Supervised Access Program (SAP), Ministry of the Attorney General, where I chaired SAP’s Professional Development Committee, which is a diverse group of external stakeholders who provide direction about program-wide learning. I developed knowledge of the ministry’s Standards for the Supervised Access Program (SAP), which are informed by various legislation, such as the Children’s Law Reform Act (CLRA), the Divorce Act, the Child and Family Services Act (CFSA), and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). As part of the SAP team, I assessed and analyzed (using IBM Watson Analytics) the ministry’s Program Improvements Survey responses from Service Providers, Justice and Community Partners that informed ongoing program development. I also developed 33 infographic posters to share responses from a province-wide Client Survey (total response 1162) with external stakeholders across Ontario. Show less

Phase 1: June 2015- August 2015 Phase 2: May 2016- December 2016 I have a keen interest to work with child welfare policies. At the Office of the Chief Coroner (OCC), Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, I worked as a Research Project Assistant with the Paediatric Death Review Committee (PDRC). I assisted with the analysis of data sets compiled from multiple sources, including children’s aid societies, coroners, and the Registrar General of Ontario. In order to ensure that my analysis was relevant and contextualized, I enhanced my knowledge of related policies and legislation (i.e. Coroners Act; Child and Family Services Act). My findings supported the development of the PDRC’s 2015 and 2016 Annual Reports (where I was specifically acknowledge by the Chief Coroner for my contributions), and will help to inform multiple stakeholders as they work to develop strategies to support the prevention of child deaths. Through this experience, I learned the use of data to influence and inform evidence-based policy development, as well as how to communicate findings for further use by ministries and their community partners. I have a strong interest in Education and Special Education. At the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services (MGCS), I worked as an Education and Outreach Project Assistant to educate vulnerable consumers (i.e. newcomers, seniors) about their consumer rights. I co-authored the ministry’s “A Newcomer’s Introduction to Consumer Protection in Ontario”, and provided feedback on how MGCS could distribute the consumer education tools using different channels to reach vulnerable consumer groups. For example, I assisted in building a partnership with Service Canada to distribute consumer education material related to the Syrian Refugee Initiative. Additionally, I processed mixed-method qualitative and quantitative analysis on the ministry’s Marketplace Intelligence and Consumer Services data, to develop a report outlining vulnerable groups’ consumer experiences that helped to inform the ministry’s future policies and program developments, to safeguard vulnerable groups in Ontario’s dynamic marketplace.
