This rapid-response solution will offset any drops in wind at wind farms in southern Morocco and, more generally, will help Morocco transition towards new energies, thanks to financing from the Africa Development Bank (AfDB) and the European… Show more The pumped storage hydroelectric plant in Abdelmoumen, a town located 70km from Agadir, ties in with the plan to develop and integrate renewable energies in Morocco. The project will meet the country’s demand for electricity during peak periods. This rapid-response solution will offset any drops in wind at wind farms in southern Morocco and, more generally, will help Morocco transition towards new energies, thanks to financing from the Africa Development Bank (AfDB) and the European Investment Bank (EIB). The Abdelmoumen scheme involves building two water reservoirs at different altitudes, and between the two, at a low point, a powerhouse comprising reversible pump-turbines. The water stored in the upper reservoir will be released into a 3km waterway (comprising a penstock and tunnels), flowing 550m downhill towards the lower reservoir. The 350MW hydroelectric plant will be installed between the two reservoirs along the waterway. This reversible plant will generate electricity in turbine mode, and will pump water from the lower to the upper reservoir in pumping mode, thus generating renewable energy on demand. The system can be switched between pumping and turbine mode up to 20 times a day, depending on the amount of surplus electricity available or the needs of the Moroccan power grid. Excess energy is stored in the form of potential energy of water. The civil works of the powerhouse comprising reversible pump-turbines are carried out by SOGEA MAROC. Tasks carried out during the internship : - Following up the First fix of the powerhouse. - Verification of the reinforcement of the structural elements. - Implementation of the Modus operandi of some operations in site. - Establishment of a comparative between products used as firebreaks for floors with collaborative metal form-slabs. - Proposition of some technical solution in order to optimize the works in site. - Analysis of the productivity in site. - 4D site supervision with Navisworks. Inside, the 55 storeys contain a luxury hotel, offices, high-end apartments and even a viewing terrace at the top, all accessible via a total of 40 lifts, 23 in the tower and 17 in the podium. With a total area of 102,800 m², the building consists of a tower set on a podium, to resemble a rocket on its launch pad. Inside, the 55 storeys contain a luxury hotel, offices, high-end apartments and even a viewing terrace at the top, all accessible via a total of 40 lifts, 23 in the tower and 17 in the podium. The structure can withstand not only the usual elements, such as strong winds or seismic events, but also flooding from the neighbouring Bouregreg river. The tower is braced 70% by its concrete core and 30% by the structure of the steel porticos on its façade. In view of the apartments at the top of the tower, a tuned mass damper system to reduce oscillations will be installed in the last few storeys.
