During his last semester at Bucknell, I advised Zak on a project designed to develop an instructional video dealing with problems in stream restoration design from a geomorphic perspective. Zak's project combined observations at several field sites with an experimental stream restoration reach designed in Geology's large sediment flume. Zak produced a very useful video in a short time which has been used often by a variety of watershed groups interested in stream restoration. The video effectively illustrates, with help of the flume experiment, how many of the standard procedures are destined to failure during floods. I was quite impressed with the caliber of Zak's work on this project.
