As a Team Leader I facilitated the running of play schemes at the adventure playground. I managed a diverse team of over thirty staff, supervising SEND children with varying support needs. By role-modelling ideal playwork, I fostered a positive work ethos for novice playworkers. I led supervision meetings, provided individual and collective feedback to reflect on the delivery of the service. Through this, the team developed activity plans personalised to each child’s strengths and interests. I also provided basis of primary behavioural support strategies to prevent challenging behaviours. When such behaviours were exhibited, I took lead and responded promptly with clear communication, composure and dynamic decision making. This minimised the impact of the situation on both the child and the service. An integral part of my role was to work in partnership with a wide array of individuals and stakeholders. This made me acutely aware of the importance of communication and mutual respect when leading a team, from sharing safeguarding concerns with line managers to discussing parental feedback with staff. By diversifying my approach based on my audience, I ensured the successful delivery of the service. Through our collective team efforts the charity was awarded Adventure Playground of the Year by the London Play association. Show less
