While at MacDermid Graphic Solutions, I served as Technical Applications Intern. I thoroughly learned the ins-and-outs of platemaking and the entire process involved. I was able to learn solvent and thermal platemaking, as well as liquid. During my time, I worked to complete client orders and troubleshoot products. I was also fortunate enough to be able to work on a major intern-led project and present it to my higher-ups. I was able to sit-in on numerous FTA conferences and obtain the information provided. Working for MacDermid was a fantastic experience. Being an intern there meant I was privy to the best of the best in the flexographic industry, specifically platemaking and printing. It was an awesome experience that allowed me hundreds of hours of hands-on work with MacDermid’s equipment and processes. It taught me to be confident in myself and to expand my critical thinking beyond my typical boundaries. I was able to problem solve and work with industry problems that I was very new to. It also taught me patience in my craft. Sometimes problems can’t be fixed overnight and take several brainstorming sessions to figure out a solution. Overall, MacDermid helped me grow as a student, an industry worker, and an overall human being. MacDermid allowed me to meet great people and build new connections that I will forever be grateful for.

      • Aug 2020 - May 2021

At the Sonoco Institute of Packaging Design and Graphics, I held the position of Press Operator Intern. Working at Sonoco, my responsibilities consisted of helping around the print lab and learning everything there is to know about flexographic printing. Here, I was able to build my foundation for much of my knowledge about the flexographic printing process. I was able to learn about various types of ink, substrates, and printing techniques. I was also able to work on a major project in the lab, focusing on setting up streaming and video capabilities in the lab for use during the COVID-19 pandemic. I was also able to expand my knowledge on the packaging industry as a whole, working with creating packages, learning the processes of assembling packages, and discovering the links between flexo and packaging. My time at Sonoco was an excellent experience. I truly believe this is where my passion for both the flexographic industry and videography began to blossom. Being able to work on both interests at the same time during the same internship really helped me understand both side a lot more. I was able to learn about flexo printing and then take what I learned and apply it to the videography side of things. This experience also gave me a lot of confidence with understanding what career paths were available to me. My mentors and coworkers were fantastic to work with and really pushed me beyond what I thought my abilities were capable of. I will forever remember this experience as the cornerstone of my endeavors in the flexographic and videography worlds.
