As a Regional Planner for the East Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission, a multi-purpose public agency providing a wide range of services to member governments within a ten-county area in East Alabama, I was responsible for conducting assigned planning projects, providing technical assistance to officials, and managing a range of programs serving governments and citizens throughout the area. EARPDC Planning Division offers grant administration services to local governments within East Alabama.It was my responsibility to research and prepare planning and transportation studies and reports, prepare and submit grants, and to administer funded grant proposals. I have submitted grant proposals in response to state and federal solicitations, including the U.S. Department of Agriculture Office of Rural Development, U.S. Department of Transportation, U.S. Economic Development Administration, U.S. Department of Justice, Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, the Appalachian Regional Commission, and the U.S. National Park Service.I served as the coordinator for the federally-mandated Rural Transportation Planning Organization for the East Alabama Region, and my office provided program administrative support to the Calhoun Area Transportation Study. EARPDC’s Planning Division is designated to provide regional services for state and federal agencies, including the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA), the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) designated Economic Development District (EDD) and the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) designated Local Development District (LDD) for the East Alabama region. My duties required maintaining productive working relationships with stakeholders representing local, state, and federal governments on a wide variety of issues relating to transportation, economic development, zoning, planning, historic development, grant funding, and redistricting.

Upon the successful completion of an internship with this public agency and graduation with a Master of Public Administration, I was hired to assist the Director of Planning and more senior Regional Planners in the preparation of grant applications, grant management, and NEPA requirements for the Community Development Block Grant Program and responses to solicitations from the Economic Development Administration including the production of environmental impact statements as required by law. Furthermore, in this role I worked with the local officials of Goodwater and Sylacauga, Alabama to research, prepare, and submit successful applications for historic district designation and historic preservation by inclusion into the State of Alabama’s list of historic landmarks and places.
