The other half of my time was used to help manage the mechanical engineering laboratories. In the thermal fluids and aerospace lab, I built new experiments and wrote new laboratory manuals. For the other labs, I set up experiments, ensured the data acquisition and instrumentations are working, and fixed breakdowns. I was a resource for engineering guidance, and applied engineering for capstone projects and other related engineering experiments. Some my favorite experiments to work on included: a real jet engine (Brayton cycle), jet nozzle, Rankine cycle, water tunnel, turbo charger, vapor compression cycle and the sterling engine. Designed, built, and tested proprietary cooling technology for commercial partner. Used relevant ISO and ASHRAE standards and designed the system for military grade operation (60C). After split, participated in an I-corps affiliate program called R2M conducting over 35 customer discovery interviews to identify the most critical need in the data center market. Secured grant funding to apply the technology in the data center sector and generated new IP for a much advanced technology when compared… Show more Designed, built, and tested proprietary cooling technology for commercial partner. Secured grant funding to apply the technology in the data center sector and generated new IP for a much advanced technology when compared to before. POC demonstrated on donated servers. Designed and tested air and liquid electronics cooling systems to study the optimal conditions for maximizing efficiency. Designed, built and documented instruments for characterizing thermodynamic performance. Utilized this experimental data to study heat transfer and power consumption of various electronics cooling systems. Global cooling prize: worked with 5 other thermal R&D engineers to rework the standard air conditioning system to improve efficiency by 4x and reduce global warming potential by 5x. We developed a concept that ended up as one of eight pathways to these goals, but our modeling showed the efficiency target was unrealistic. Worked alone in the field many times and learned to make decisions and solve problems without supervision. Duties included moving pipe, helping set up a irrigation system, controlling the weeds throughout the farm, controlling the gofer problem, working early to beat the sun and improving infrastructures on the property. Gained valuable experience sorting 4000+ tools in a 1000 sqft shed. I've utilized these organizing skills in recent work settings as organization is key.
