I am continuing my project management work with North Bali Reef Conservation, an NGO which I co-founded in 2017 alongside my Environmental Science degree. This work currently involves managing a team of sustainable fishermen and international volunteers to focus on projects such as:-Artificial reef construction and deployment-Coral transplantation-Environmental awareness/education with local villagers and schools-MPA enforcement. I am also currently undertaking research in Bali for my PhD, which is funded by Earthwatch and Bournemouth University. My current research interest is focused around organic and inorganic nutrient cycling on artificial and coral reefs, and how this changes with the development of biological communities. Show less

    • Research Program Manager
      • Jun 2018 - Sep 2018

Upon receiving a Marine Research Grant from the Society of Conservation Biology, I managed a three month artificial reef monitoring program. This research, undertaken in North Bali, assessed the potential of artificial reefs in increasing marine biodiversity and abundance on an area of previously destroyed coral reef. The program involved using Remote Underwater Video (RUV) to take daily recordings at 36 sites along the north Bali coastline. This allowed the comparison of marina biota, abundance and biodiversity between artificial reefs, coral reefs and flat sandy areas. Overall, the program was a huge success and I would like to thank my team, international volunteers and the Balinese locals who all helped to make this project possible. Show less

      • Jul 2017 - Apr 2018

In July 2017, myself and Ketut De Sujana Mahartana founded the North Bali Reef Conservation program (www.northbalireefconservation.com), an environmental NGO with the aim of the restoring coral based ecosystems and providing a more sustainable future for the Indonesian people who rely on the sea for their livelihoods. So far we have:●Built and deployed over 150 artificial reef structures with a team of local sustainable fishermen.●Organised marine conservation education and weekly beach cleans with the 2 local schools.●Secured government funding.●Setting up a 180 meter marine conservation zone.●Taking on international volunteersI am now back in the UK continuing my degree whilst internationally coordinating the organisation. I am returning to project manage in June 2018. Show less
