I was first hired as a pool attendant. I applied myself to a lifeguard course and obtained the required qualifications to become one. I also applied myself to the open bar staff position, gaining experience in that field as well. I chose to try my hand at leisure because I wanted to break away from retail and try something completely new. Although the bar work is very similar to retail in many ways on a smaller scale, the lifeguarding has been a wonderful leap into a new working world. It has been a great learning curve and presented challenges I am not used to. I took it as a challenge to myself and I am satisfied with the outcome. Thus, I am a lot less likely to dismiss other fields of work as well. Sadly, my contract ends in October 2019, So I am looking for work.

I was scouted by a third-party recruitment company and put forward as a deputy manager candidate for co-op's Bournemouth area. I was accepted and placed into the area’s most challenging store. Despite the challenges, I feel I made a real impact with my time in the store. Creating solutions to existing issues, building rapport with a seemingly challenging team and working well with them during the months they were without a store Manager whom left shortly after my arrival. Unfortunately, in January I was dismissed. On my part I made a huge mistake as I seemingly had a great future with co-op. Yet all mistakes are to be learned from and I have grown from it and obviously would never make such poor choices again.

Hired as Sales Assistant, became Deputy again within 2 months. This time around with the company has taught me the most in retail and how the sales world works. In December 2017 I was asked to temporarily leave my New Milton store to help set up a whole new store from scratch in Weymouth. This included performing interviews for 30+ people, hiring 20, training everyone ready for the setup of the store, and then leading them all through the stock setup of the store and opening. I then proceeded to choose two of the staff to train, that would eventually take on the store as Manager and Deputy upon my leave in February. This process taught me everything I needed to know in running a store. From store operations, to KPI’s, LFL, sales budgets and payroll processes. Due to this Waymouth store is still open and performing strong to this day. I then went back to New Milton and assisted the manager there in boosting sales, hiring suitable staff and taking some of the back office rota and payroll responsibilities from her to aid the shop in its performance and processes. In July 2018 I was asked to do the same thing for the new Eastleigh store that opened in August 2018 on the condition that there would be a Store Manager to take on the store as it opened. I completed my tasks within 6 days and the store opened successfully taking roughly 60k – 70k weekly, smashing its 40k target. I was lastly posted there as Night Manager assisting the store manager in managing 28 members of staff. Due to the travel however, I chose to leave the company for somewhere closer to home.

Started off as a Customer Assistant and became Team Leader within 6 months. With this I was given responsibility of physical stock in the store, ensuring true date control. I would also lead a team of up to 5 people on a regular basis. Ensuring the team and I delivered all expectations both in sales and quality of the store ready for handover to the next manager. Left to travel and get a change of scenery. Started off as a Customer Assistant and became Team Leader within 6 months.
