Research Assistent
-
Nov 2021 - Dec 2021
For two months, I was asked to assist in a research project of the Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases department. Two days a week I visited patients, explained the research, and asked them for Informed Consent. During this project I came across more than 20 different wards, seeing more than 100 different patients with their corresponding diseases. This experience gives me insight into how it is to work in an academic hospital, but most importantly that empathy and human interaction are crucial parts in healthcare. Show less

Transplant Technician
-
Oct 2018 - Jul 2019
As a Transplant Technician I placed donor kidneys on so-called perfusion machines. These are special devices in which a freshly removed donor kidney is supplied with a continuous cold flow of preservation fluid. When an organ donation in the West region was announced, my colleague and me left the LUMC with the perfusion machines to ensure that all donor kidneys could be treated. On the spot, we prepared the perfusion machine and ensured that the surgeon correctly attaches the donor kidney to the device. Next to this, we supported the medical professionals during the whole procedure. Being a Transplant Technician required flexibility (24-hours shifts), professionality and teamwork. Show less
