Responsible for the primary data collection and analysis and co-author of the WMU research project, funded by the ITF Seafarers' Trust: "Evaluating the implementation of the current maritime regulatory framework on rest and work hours" The associated research activities broadly aimed to achieve the following: (1) Investigate stakeholder perceptions of the capacity of the current international regulatory framework to effectively prevent fatigue and to mitigate the consequences relating to ship safety and security, as well as seafarers’ health; (2) To assess the barriers to effective implementation onboard ships; and (3) To evaluate the level of enforcement of the current regulatory regime. • Managing Director

As founder of Maritime Training Enterprise (MTE), I am passionate about seeing lives transformed through quality training, human capital development, and the acquisition of a broader range of skills that prepare graduates for gainful employment in the Maritime Industry and beyond - thus the driving force behind establishing thís 'Enterprise' Enterprise (ˈɛntəˌpraɪz) n 1. a project or undertaking, esp. one that requires boldness or effort 2. participation in such projects 3. readiness to embark on new ventures; boldness and energy Operation Phakisa and other similar local content initiatives across Africa are placing huge emphasis on skills development and to creating an alternate supply of seafarers in, and for Africa. Training with the intent to purely increase the number of graduates will not suffice in creating a source of seafarers that can compete Internationally, and meet the ever increasing and stringent safety and Owner/Charterer requirements – especially in a market flooded with newly graduated Junior Officers and Ratings. It is therefore of paramount importance that specialist skill-sets are continually developed in order to set new graduates apart from the ‘minimum requirements’, and that we actively create and market employment opportunities, both locally and Internationally. This same principle also applies to existing seafarers in the Industry - Merchant Navy, Fishing and Cruise Liners - to ensure continuous development, career prospects and subsequent progression through the ranks. It is MTE’s intention, through partnership with our network of Industry Specialists, to ensure our services are of the highest quality and offer gainful employment opportunities to seafarers throughout Africa, the Indian Ocean Islands and further afield - benefits of our services extend directly to Employers, Sponsors and Investors.
