A genomic investigation of the marine teleost tarakihi (Nemadactylus macropterus) provides insights into its genome evolution and population structure I performed de novo genome assemblies and isoform splicing analyses of non-model organisms using Illumina short reads, Oxford Nanopore long reads, PacBio Sequel II (HIFI DNA, ISO-Seq RNA) and Hi-C data. I analysed intra/inter-population and inter-species genetic variation and structure using SNP calling. This involved daily usage of R and bash, shell scripting, implementation and usage of bioinformatics pipelines for NGS data handling, from Quality Control and filtering to downstream analyses. I also assisted in the maintenance of a laboratory for molecular biology research, and routinely performed tasks like e.g. tissue sampling, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, QC analyses (gel electrophoresis, Qubit, Nanodrop), among others.
