It is a rare opportunity to work with a manager as dedicated to teaching as he is to directing his team, but Yung Follis balances the two effortlessly. I was fortunate enough to work under Yung at Mutual Mobile for over three years, benefitting from his tutelage on several high-profile projects. He expertly filled the role of Associate Director for the company’s Quality Assurance department, successfully organizing department-wide training initiatives, collaborating on clear and actionable departmental goals, and investing an immense amount of time in the personal and professional development of his direct reports. As one of his direct reports, I witnessed on countless occasions the extent at which Yung invests himself in the development of his mentees. Whether I was meeting up for a scheduled one-on-one or needed an impromptu discussion to manage a terse project issue, I could rest easy knowing Yung would devote his full arsenal of skills and experience to assist me in solving my next professional challenge. Yung not only leads his charges with clear direction when the need arises, but cultivates their individual skills and predispositions to pose them for success in their project teams. He’s a champion at bolstering the confidence and drive necessary to continue that professional growth utilizing his very thoughtful brand of leadership and his extensive experience in Quality Assurance. Even now that we’ve moved on from Mutual Mobile, I still come to Yung candidly with professional and personal challenges. I can rely on Yung to push me to analytically problem-solve to overcome them. He’s perfected the art of encouragement rather than dictation and I have become a more confident professional because he encourages analysis and critical thinking skills in our conversations. As a leader and manager, Yung earns my highest recommendation.

I worked with Yung at a company called Austin Information System (AIS). Later, the company was sold and changed its name to Overwatch Systems. During our time at AIS, he and I worked on the same project but covered different areas. Something that stands out about him is the depth and detail of coverage that he implemented when working on projects. His ability to quickly understand complex functions and break down technical information was much greater than what I had seen other engineers. For example, he took his assigned project area and dug out as much information as he could about the inner workings to develop a detailed test plan that left no areas uncovered. His thoroughness resulted in a clear test plans and deep functional understanding for other testers. This enabled anyone on the team to understand the functionality and execute testing that fully covered all of the features and expose any defects. This level of attention to detail typical in any of his work. He was a valuable team member. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a test engineer. Yung Follis, would be a great asset any software test team.
