Tim Reierson
During our UIUC MSA program, we offered an extensive variety of non-academic personal and professional development activities, including professional coaching, soft skill development presentations and workshops, English-speaking initiatives and an offsite development program in Chicago. As the program director at the time, I experienced first-hand Yuling's progress. Yuling was engaged in everything that we offered, being a very visible and active participant. She coached with me on numerous occasions throughout the year. She frequently demonstrated to me her eagerness to learn. I observed her significant improvement since she started in our MSA program because of her commitment to a growth mindset and her ability to overcome her own fears to get outside of her comfort zone. Because of her desire to learn, her initiative to get engaged in those opportunities that stretched and challenged her and her commitment to hard work and academic excellence, she was honored as one of our best MSA students by receiving the MSA Program's "Circle of Excellence" Award. Only 20 out of 172 MSA students received this honor. Because of what I saw in Yuling while she was here at UIUC, I believe her potential for career success is high.
