SouthWestSensor (SWS) is a start-up company that aims to produce a compact and reliable water sensor though droplet microfluidic technology to completely eliminate manual sampling and analysis of water samples, which is labour intensive and expensive. ➤ Performed design optimisation to increase the robustness and performance of the water sensor components by reducing the failure rate of pump by ~50% ➤ Fabrication, assembly and testing of water sensor components both mechanically and electronically i.e. 3D printing, laser cutting, machining, soldering and controlling of parameters via in-house developed software Show less

Project: Stent-on-a-chip: Studying Encrustation of Ureteric Stent using Microfluidics The main aim of this study was to develop microfluidic models to investigate fluid dynamic mechanisms of particle deposition in ureteric stents. ➤ Evaluated the flow field computationally within a stented ureter and computational results revealed the presence of low-velocity regions within the stented ureter, comprising its side holes and the occluded cavity ➤ Experimentally quantified accumulation and growth of encrusting deposits. Both occluded and unoccluded segments of the ureter were investigated, at physiological urine flow conditions. Experiments demonstrated enhanced accumulation of encrusting deposits within these regions, and revealed a correlation between urine velocity field and the location/growth rate of encrustation ➤ Co-authored and published a journal entitled "Engineering solutions to ureteral stents: material, coating and design" Show less
